Product Review: Blue/Purple Shampoo/Toner

So for the past month I have been flirting with golden blonde hair, platinum blonde hair, silver hair, and dishwater blonde hair.

Of course, in bleaching my hair to the super light color spectrum from my natural dark brown, the color of my hair retained it's reddish tint. No matter what, when you bleach you end up with orange, brassy tones in your hair that look really unprofessional and just plain awful on some people-- SO if you see a girl who has highlights in her hair and they are a weird orangey blonde, it is because she is not keeping up her hair very well.

So let me talk to you a little bit about the color wheel of hair, so that you can understand how to combat that awful red/orange/gold that creeps back and forth into bleached, blonde, and platinum hair or highlights.

So just like the color wheel in art, you can see that the blue and purple colors are opposites of the red and yellow colors! This works the same way in hair. In a way, if you neutralize the brassy tones in your hair with a good violet or blue toner, then you can mask and remove a lot of the orangy color and give yourself a lighter, truer blonde.

To achieve the super light/bright blonde you see here-- lately I have been using The GENERIC BRAND shampoo for blonde and silver, which is an off brand of Clairol's Shimmer Lights shampoo. I don't have an image of it, because it's so Generic, but it worked wonders on my hair. My hair was brassy and orange and disgusting looking, and with one quick box of platinum toner, and the help of the shampoo, my hair has since stayed orange free!
GENERIC BRAND SHIMMER LIGHTS SHAMPOO
Likes:
Smells really really good when you put it on
Tones the orange away very quickly
Cleans your hair pretty well
Dislikes:
Stains everything (comes off with soap and water, but I'm lazy)
If left on for too long it turns your hair Purple.
A good example of overtoning (which can sometimes look good) is:

So my parents threw out my generic brand because I left it on the sink. So I went out and purchase the Legit Clairol Brand Shimmer Lights shampoo! How's that!!!!! Throwing my stuff away...
Anyways, Shimmer Lights, I don't really like, even though it is the legit brand. I just feel that it really isn't as strong as the generic brand and instead of whitening, I feel as if it makes it more blueish in tone.
When I first did my hair I left it on for the five minute time period and it didn't whiten it or anything. Today I left it on my head for at least thirty minutes, and it turned my hair a very light shade of blue.

So the consensus is......

GENERIC BRAND SHIMMER LIGHTS!
Don't let that nasty blonde color happen to you!!!
